Spurs favourites to land in-demand winger

Tottenham are interested in signing Bordeaux’s Brazilian winger Malcom, according to various news services including ESPN.

The article says 20-year-old’s representatives have held talks with both us and our north London rivals Arsenal this month but the Gunners are no longer interested in a deal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan now both the main targets to replace the departing Alexis Sanchez.

The article goes on to say that a source close to Spurs told ESPN that the club remain unlikely to add players to the squad this month but Malcolm could sign in January and join in the summer, leaving him free to help current side Bordeaux’s with their relegation battle for the remainder of the season.

“Maybe we need to sign players in January and bring them in six months before,” : Mauricio Pochettino said in December. “If not, we’re going to compete in the same period as City, [Manchester] United, Liverpool and Chelsea — and we’re going to struggle to bring in the players we want.”

The article says that Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Malcom, who could cost up to £40 million up-front with a further £10m in add-ons, while the player is also reportedly attracted to the idea of working with the Argentine.
