Spurs half time ratings vs Liverpool – Chasing shadows on Merseyside

Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action against Liverpool.

Tottenham head into the break against Jurgen Klopp’s side having had their backs to the wall but go into the break level at 0-0.

Hugo Lloris: Rescued Sessegnon after he headed back across goal and managed to claw the ball away. Did well to beat Diaz’s effort away shortly before the half. 6.

Emerson Royal: Has tried his best to link up with Kulusevski down the right. Needs to do far better when defending corners after Van Dijk easily brushed him aside to head against the crossbar. 5.

Cristian Romero: Solid in the tackle as always, got himself out of jail having played a slack pass in his own area to win the ball back. Was fortunate a few minutes later with a similar risky ball. 6.

Eric Dier: Has defended well in a couple of desperate situations. 6.

Ben Davies: Was lucky Alexander-Arnold’s effort went high and wide after the Welshman played a silly square ball across his own box. Has been made a couple of loose passes. 5.

Ryan Sessegnon: Has played high up on the left, defensively was thankful when he decided to head the ball back across goal and had to be bailed out by Lloris. 6.

Rodrigo Bentancur: With the vast majority of the half having been played inside the Spurs area, he has spent the 45 minutes closing down Liverpool players. Needs to sort out his passing, a couple of poor passes. 5.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: Has struggled against Liverpool’s midfield and nearly broke the deadlock only to see his shot come back off the post. 6.

Dejan Kulusevski: Has tried to break down the right when in possession but has had very little support ahead of him with the Reds getting plenty of numbers around him. 6.

Heung-min Son: Unable to influence the game in any way with most of his presence being deep in his own half. 6.

Harry Kane: Saw his only glimpse of goal blocked by a good challenge from Henderson early on. 6.
