Spurs handed fixture headache ahead of Carabao Cup final

It has been confirmed that Tottenham’s Premier League fixture against Southampton has been rearranged for Wednesday, April 21, just a matter of days before the Carabao Cup final.

With Spurs having crashed out of the Europa League in embarrassing fashion a couple of weeks ago, the North Londoners now need to finish in the top four in order to re-enter the Champions League next season.

The win over Aston Villa took Spurs to just within three points off fourth-placed Chelsea but Jose Mourinho’s men face an uphill task to clinch the fourth spot given the number of teams competing for the position.

The Carabao Cup final on April 25 has taken up a lot more importance, particularly given the speculation surrounding Mourinho’s future.

Spurs have an opportunity to end their 13-year trophy drought when they take on Manchester City at Wembley, and getting their hands on trophy could potentially turn what has been a disappointing season so far, into a successful one.

However, it has now been confirmed that the Lilywhites will welcome Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just four days before the big final.

Additionally, Tottenham’s away game against Everton has been rescheduled for Saturday, 17 April.

Some will say that this is not really a big disadvantage as City are also scheduled to take on Aston Villa the same day we play Southampton. However, not only do City already have the title effectively won but their squad is strong enough for them to rest almost the whole of their starting eleven.
