A former Tottenham scout says that Spurs might have to battle a number of Premier League clubs if they wish to land one of Ange Postecoglou’s targets in January.

English midfielder now living up to potential
While Angel Gomes had always been considered a promising talent right from his early years in the Manchester United academy, the midfielder had to move to Ligue 1 to prove his worth at the highest level.
The 24-year-old has now emerged as one of Lille’s most important players and has done exceedingly well for England over recent months, thus catching the eye of a number of Premier League sides.
It was reported by GiveMeSport last week that Tottenham are one of the sides keeping an eye on Gomes ahead of January as they contemplate reinforcing their midfield.

Heavy competition expected for Angel Gomes
Mick Brown, who previously worked as a scout for the likes of Man Utd, Tottenham and Aston Villa, has now revealed that a lot of clubs from the English top flight are now watching the Lille star.
The industry insider said that Gomes’ recent performances for the Three Lions have convinced a number of sides that he is capable of thriving in the Premier League.
When asked about the speculation over former Man Utd man, Brown told Football Insider: “I’ve been told there are Premier League clubs watching him. And I think they’d be silly not to be considering a deal.
“Someone playing for England, and if you look at his stats, the amount of times he touches the ball and retains possession, is always going to attract interest.
“His assist against Finland was a beautiful pass. Not many players could have seen that ball, never mind being able to pull it off. His skill is undeniable, there have just been questions about whether his physicality would suit the English game, but playing for England has shown that it can.
“It tells you something about his temperament as well that he could take leaving Man United, go abroad, make a name for himself and get in the England team.”

Do Tottenham need a number eight?
Ange Postecoglou now has two top attacking midfielders at his disposal in James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, and another top young talent waiting in the wings in the form of Lucas Bergvall.
However, if the Australian coach is going to continue using two number eights in front of a sole holding midfielder, he might feel that he needs to add another player of Gomes’ mould to the squad.
Postecoglou will also have to consider how such a signing would impact the development of Bergvall, who would need game time at the top level to fulfil his potential.
