Spurs have tasted the highs, now Poch reveals how they will avoid the lows

Tottenham Hotspur played one of the memorable games in their recent history on Tuesday night, as they took to the Camp Nou pitch to battle Barca.

Spurs needed to match whatever result Inter Milan got at the San Siro against bottom of the group PSV.

Luckily for Spurs, PSV were able to take a point off the Italians, paving a way for Tottenham qualification.

A late equalising goal by Lucas Moura in Spain was enough to book his side’s place in the last sixteen.

However, Spurs have made a habit of resting on their laurels so far this season, both in game and week to week.

Tottenham handed away leads against Watford, Inter Milan, PSV, and Arsenal to name a few.

They also followed up a famous 3-0 at Old Trafford with a loss to Watford, something Poch is keen to avoid this time around.

One thing he is determined not to let ruin his side is over-confidence.

He said (Football London): “The confidence is always good if you manage in the right way. Sometimes the confidence makes you weak, it is so important to be confident but to be thinking we need to be ready to compete in our best way.

“It will be a tough game against Burnley and we can’t think because we are in the last 16 of the Champions League and are in the next stage now it will be easy to beat Burnley. We need to give our best mentality, we need the approach to the game must be very aggressive, with plenty of energy and we need to deserve to win after 90 minutes. I am so motivated for this game because it is so important to win the three points and then after get ready for the derby against Arsenal.”

When talking about the Watford loss, he said: “In between that situation many thing happened, it was completely different. It is always tough to manage when you like us qualify for the last 16 for the Champions League after the Barcelona game where all the people was very excited and our fans were very excited.

“Now the most important thing is to be clever and how we need to find to take it in the same way the game because that is the challenge and that is going to show if we are a very mature team or consistent team to challenge for big things.

We need to play against Burnley the way we played against Barcelona or the previous game, we are going to be disappointed if we do not approach the game jn the same way. In my mind after Barcelona I was thinking to be ready to try and prepare myself to be in the best condition and the whole team, the fans, the staff need to think the same.

“Now the most important game is the next and the next is Saturday against Burnley. Not because we are in the last 16 of the Champions League it is going to be easy or we are going to win without the effort or the energy that is required in the Premier League. That is why it is massive respect to the opponent and try to give your best and know we need to make a massive effort to win the game.”
