PA Sport reporter George Sessions has said that Tottenham have a huge advantage in the race for Antonio Nusa as neither Chelsea nor Newcastle would be able to meet Club Brugge’s asking price for the player.
Despite some suggestions at the start of this week that the Magpies are looking to hijack Tottenham’s deal for Nusa (Football Insider), the Lilywhites appear on track to secure the winger if reports over the last couple of days are to be believed.
TEAMtalk claimed on Wednesday afternoon that Ange Postecoglou’s men are now closing in on a deal worth £26m for the 18-year-old, who is expected to be loaned back to Brugge for the remainder of the season.
However, the outlet added that there is still a small risk that the deal could be hijacked, which is why Tottenham are in a hurry to swiftly conclude the deal.

Tottenham are still in the driving seat for Nusa deal
Sessions has now assuaged Spurs fans’ fears by pointing out that the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea, who have also shown interest in Nusa, cannot afford to meet Brugge’s asking price for the teenager.
He suggested that unless a club like Liverpool make a surprise late entry into the equation, Tottenham are well placed to secure the winger.
When asked about the North London side’s negotiations with the Belgian club for the youngster, the journalist told The Spurs Chat Podcast: “They want £30m, but they’re not going to get that from anyone else unless like a Liverpool suddenly come into the equation.
“Newcastle were mentioned today but I don’t think they have the money for an 18-year-old and Chelsea had a bid rejected in the summer, but I don’t think he’d be their priority, nor do I think they’d have £30m for an 18-year-old.”
Spurs Web Opinion
As some other journalists have already pointed out recently, the value of Tottenham’s decisions to build up their revenue streams and run a tight ship is now plain for all to see, with Spurs now being able to outmuscle the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea financially.
