Spurs head coach admits he is less confident and motivated when he thinks about injuries

Tottenham Hotspur take on Liverpool this weekend in the Premier League, but it will be a severely depleted Spurs side without both their captain and vice-captain.

Spurs reported today that both Tanguy Ndombele and Ben Davies are continuing with on-field rehabilitation after their respective hip and ankle injuries.

Harry Kane is set to undergo surgery after rupturing the tendon in his left hamstring, while Moussa Sissoko has already had surgery of his own on his knee. Hugo Lloris is now training outdoors but is still not yet ready for a return.

Once you bear in mind that Kane, Sissoko, and Lloris all started in the Champions League Final last year, Davies was on the bench, and Ndombele is the club-record signing, you can understand what a blow these injuries are.

However, Mourinho says he cannot think about these injuries, as it only makes him less confident and less motivated to focus on what Spurs are working on.

He said (Football London): “We have injuries but again if I think about the injuries, who is not playing, I’m not as confident and motivated as I am so I have to focus on what we did in the week, concentrate on the effort and enthusiasm the boys put in this week and the motivation you must have to play against the best teams. We are playing against the beat teams. You are confident or not confident. If you are not confident it’s better to stay at home. If you’re confident it’s not going to be easy but if you’re confident you’re going with everything that you have and that’s what I want the boys to do, go with everything we have.”
