Spurs head coach reveals why Lamela wasn’t even on the bench against Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur are in the midst of an injury crisis, particularly among their forward players in North London.

Harry Kane and Jeung-min Son have both required surgery on respective hamstring and arm injuries, while midfield man Moussa Sissoko is also a long-term absentee.

This has meant that Jose Mourinho has often deployed Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn in striker positions, with Dele Alli also regularly supporting.

Erik Lamela has also often come on towards the end of matches in order to add an extra attacking threat to Jose’s side.

The Argentine has generally looked impressive and capable of changing a match via his creativity and positive style.

However, Lamela missed out on the Tottenham squad altogether this week when the Lilywhites welcomed Wolves to North London.

Having struggled with injury of late, and throughout his career, Lamela apparently told Mourinho that he was not fit to feature today in the Premier League.

Mourinho said (Football London): “He [Parrott] was on the bench because Lamela told me before the game he was not even ready to go on the bench.”
