Spurs included in Conference League Draw; who they will face if they remain in competition

The UEFA Conference League knockout round play-off draw was made just moments ago with Tottenham Hotspur having been included despite the uncertainty surrounding their future in the competition.

The North Londoners were due to face Rennes last Thursday evening in the final match of Group G, only for a Covid-19 outbreak to wreak havoc among Antonio Conte’s squad and backroom staff to end the prospect of the match taking place.

UEFA have since confirmed through a statement relayed on the official Spurs website that the match will not be rescheduled and the result will be now be decided by the Uefa control, ethics and disciplinary body this week.

Rennes have already reached the last 16 as group winners, while Tottenham are third – three points behind Vitesse, who beat NS Mura on Thursday. The group runners-up will secure a spot in a play-off for the last 16.

For what appears to be a pure formality, Spurs/Vitesse will face Rapid Wien in the play-off which will be a two-legged tie scheduled for 17 February in Austria, with the second leg taking place a week later.

SpursWeb Opinion

It seems highly unlikely that Tottenham have any chance of retaining their place in the competition after failing to take to the field against Rennes, coupled with the fact that they are three points behind Vitesse ahead of UEFA making a decision on what the outcome of the postponed fixture should be.
