Spurs ‘insider’ reveals club’s stance on Maksim Paskotsi’s potential and contract

Tottenham ‘insider’ John Wenham has revealed the club is impressed with young defender Maksim Paskotsi and have no plans to part ways with him this summer despite recent absences.

The 19-year-old returned to the Spurs U23 fold last weekend and captained a young side to a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool.

But it was the Estonia international’s first appearance for the development squad since late October, which Wenham puts down to the effects of Covid affecting his recovery.

Wenham told Football Insider: “Paskotsi returned to the side which was great to see.

“He’s had Covid and it has taken him a long time to recover and get back which we have heard happen with other players.”

The layoff has also led to plenty of speculation regarding Paskotsi’s future at the club, although Wenham assured fans that Spurs rate his potential very highly.

He added: “A lot of people have been asking me where he is on social media and some people have been panicking over why he’s been left out.

“I would remind any worried fans that Paskotsi has a contract until 2023 so any departure this summer would be on our terms anyway.

“From what I’m told, Tottenham are really impressed with Maksim and that’s why he was straight back in with the armband when he was available.”

Paskotsi has made five appearances in the Premier League 2 this term and played 79 minutes on his return to Wayne Burnett’s side (Transfermarkt).

It is good to hear some clarity on why Paskotsi was missing from the reserve side and it is also positive that he has made a return, despite the tough result.

He’ll have plenty of room to grow as a defender at his age, so it is no surprise that Spurs will be keen to keep hold of him.
