Spurs apologise after website said Champions League match was postponed

Tottenham have confirmed that their clash against Sporting Lisbon will go ahead as planned tomorrow afternoon and issued an apology after a message on the club’s official website listed the fixture as ‘postponed’.

Tottenham’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City, along with all the other Premier League fixtures last weekend, were called off due to Queen Elizabeth II’s passing last Thursday.

It remains unclear if Spurs’ clash at home against Leicester City next weekend is expected to go ahead, with The Daily Mirror reporting that matches in the capital are under threat of postponement, owing to policing requirements for Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday.

However, Spurs’ European commitments will go ahead as planned, with Lilywhites set to take on Sporting away from home in Matchday 2 of the group stage.

The game against the Portuguese giants was initially displayed as ‘Postponed’ on Tottenham’s official website, which created some confusion among Spurs fans.

However, the North London club have confirmed that it was due to a technical error and that the game at the Jose Alvalde Stadium will go ahead as planned.

Thankfully, the club have provided a quick clarification before some fans cancelled their trip to Lisbon. Given that it has been widely reported in the news for the last few days that the Champions League games will go ahead as planned, I doubt any travelling fans would have called off their trip based on that error on the website.
