Spurs learn who they will face in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup

Tottenham Hotspur have this evening found out who they will face in the semi final of the Carabao Cup.

Jose Mourinho’s side will take on Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the next round.

Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods hosted the draw, with former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa forward Darren Bent selecting the ties following the match between Everton and Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Tottenham booked their place in the final four of the competition after beating Championship outfit Stoke City 3-1 courtesy of goals from Gareth Bale, Ben Davies and Harry Kane.

The semi-final stage has traditionally been two legs, although the rules have been changed in recent years.

Away goals were previously used after extra time to separate two sides if they happened to be level after two legs.

But that was done away with when the EFL scrapped extra time, meaning any ties that were level were decided on penalties.

And this year’s Carabao Cup semi-final will consist of just one leg in order to ease fixture congestion caused by the delayed start to the season and the Covid pandemic.

The semi-final ties will take place during the week commencing 4 January 2021.
