According to The Daily Express Daniel Levy reportedly tricked Manchester United into bidding for Gareth Bale before he joined Real Madrid back in 2013.
The article describes how Manchester United and Tottenham could both lure Bale away from Real Madrid and back to the Premier League this summer.
The former Spurs hero has endured a difficult campaign at the Bernabeu and, with Zinedine Zidane unconvinced, a move away beckons.
The article goes on to say how the Manchester Evening News have now shed some light on Bale’s failed United move back in 2013.
At the time, the player had just fired Tottenham to within one place of a Champions League spot.
Bale was in-demand and United, fresh from losing Sir Alex Ferguson to retirement, wanted to give David Moyes the perfect welcome gift.
However the article adds that Spurs supposedly had no intention of ever selling Bale to the Red Devils.
Levy was still furious at the way they signed Dimitar Berbatov back in 2008, with Berbatov looking Manchester City-bound after the Etihad outfit had a £30million bid accepted but United, despite Spurs saying they had not given them permission to talk with the player, ended up signing him instead.
The MEN say Levy knew Bale favoured a move to Real instead of United,yet they let the Red Devils bid anyway, as it drove the price up for Madrid.
The La Liga giants ended up paying £86million to snap him up, a world-record fee at the time and the article adds that they are Real are likely to demand their money back if Bale quits for a new challenge this summer.
