Spurs legend believes that club should ‘part company’ with player this summer

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has called for the club to sell Christian Eriksen this summer.

The Dane wasted no time recently when just days after the disappointing Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in Madrid, he publically declared his desire to depart North London to seek a new challenge whilst hinting that he would like to join Spanish giants Real Madrid. (Ekstra Bladet).

The Dane has just twelve months to run on his existing deal at Spurs and the club run the risk of him agreeing a move in January to a European club which would see him walk away for free at the end of next season.

Ardiles believes that Eriksen already has his mind set on leaving Tottenham and that any attempt to try and keep him would prove to be futile.

Ardiles told talkSPORT 2: “It looks to me like he has put his mind on a move – that he wants to go somewhere else.

“And if that is the case it’s futile for the club to try and keep a player when he wants to leave.

“I won’t say he’s not happy with us, because he is, but his mind is trying to play somewhere else, and the best thing is to part company.”

Opinion

Ardiles is right, if a player does not want to be part of the club and lack the commitment to take us to the next level they should be sold for the highest possible price.

Eriksen’s performances towards the end of last season were proof enough that his heart no longer belongs in N17.
