Spurs legend claims current star has become ‘average player’ at best

Tottenham legend, Graham Roberts has claimed that current player, Harry Winks has become an average player at best due to his conservative style.

Winks may have played 30 matches for Tottenham last season but that doesn’t tell the story of his campaign as he struggled for starts under Jose Mourinho. In fact, he only clocked up 860 minutes in the Premier League across 15 games last time out.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that Spurs’ new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, will tell Winks that the club are going to listen to offers for him this summer.

The report went on to say that the decision to look for a Winks sale will likely not change no matter what kind of new manager comes through the Hotspur Way doors.

Winks made a name for himself under Pochettino as a bright, up-and-coming, young, progressive midfielder, showcasing his skills in that infamous 3-1 victory over Real Madrid.

However, Roberts told Football Fancast that Winks is now just an average player at best.

He said: “He’s gone Mr Conservative, he plays simple, and if I don’t give the ball away, I’m a great player.

“You’re not, he’s become an average player, and that’s being fair.”
