Spurs legend claims update on potential new contract offer is ‘great news’

Graham Roberts has admitted his delight on hearing reports that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to offer Oliver Skipp a new contract.

Skipp has enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign after returning from his loan spell at Norwich last season and has managed to establish himself as a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.

The Tottenham academy graduate has shown maturity beyond his years in the way he has shielded the back four alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The 21-year-old has been getting a lot of praise from pundits and ex-Tottenham players for his displays so far this campaign.

The Athletic reported at the start of the month that Spurs would like to tie Skipp down to a new contract, with the midfielder’s current deal running out in June 2024.

This claim was backed up by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who revealed last week that it is only a matter of time before Tottenham offer the youngster a new deal.

Roberts has now termed the update on Skipp’s contract as ‘great news’ for Spurs.

The legendry Spurs defender told ThisIsFutbol: “He’s learning his trade and he’s only young and they’re talking about he is going to sign a new contract in the next week, so great news.”

Tying Skipp down to a new contract is a no-brainer for the club given the way the youngster has started the campaign.

Spurs fans need to be patient with the 21-year-old as he is bound to make a few mistakes along the way this season as he continues to mature as a player.
