Graham Roberts has admitted his delight on hearing reports that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to offer Oliver Skipp a new contract.

Skipp has enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign after returning from his loan spell at Norwich last season and has managed to establish himself as a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.

The Tottenham academy graduate has shown maturity beyond his years in the way he has shielded the back four alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The 21-year-old has been getting a lot of praise from pundits and ex-Tottenham players for his displays so far this campaign.

The Athletic reported at the start of the month that Spurs would like to tie Skipp down to a new contract, with the midfielder’s current deal running out in June 2024.

This claim was backed up by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who revealed last week that it is only a matter of time before Tottenham offer the youngster a new deal.

Roberts has now termed the update on Skipp’s contract as ‘great news’ for Spurs.

The legendry Spurs defender told ThisIsFutbol: “He’s learning his trade and he’s only young and they’re talking about he is going to sign a new contract in the next week, so great news.”

Tying Skipp down to a new contract is a no-brainer for the club given the way the youngster has started the campaign.

Spurs fans need to be patient with the 21-year-old as he is bound to make a few mistakes along the way this season as he continues to mature as a player.
