Spurs legend hits out at Kieran Trippier after Tottenham comments

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur full-back, Kieran Trippier, has aimed criticism at the club in an interview today, revealing the reason as to why he left this summer.

Atletico Madrid signed the right-back for a fee of around £20m after he endured his poorest Spurs season to date (Guardian).

While Trippier was a national hero in Russia for the 2018 World Cup, the right-back was unable to replicate anything close to this form for Spurs in the Prem or Europe.

Having said that, Trippier was part of the team that led Tottenham to their first-ever Champions League final last time out.

Now of Atletico Madrid, Trippier has been speaking out on his Tottenham exit, suggesting that something happened behind the scenes that made him want to leave.

Tripps said (Sky Sports): “I think it was time for me to change and move on. I don’t necessarily mean that I needed to move on, but things happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, which I don’t really want to go into, but I needed to move on from that.”

These comments haven’t gone down too well with Tottenham legend Graham Roberts, who believes that Trippier should be keeping quiet after such a poor season with Tottenham last year.
