Spurs legend hits out at Kieran Trippier after Tottenham comments

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur full-back, Kieran Trippier, has aimed criticism at the club in an interview today, revealing the reason as to why he left this summer.

Atletico Madrid signed the right-back for a fee of around £20m after he endured his poorest Spurs season to date (Guardian).

While Trippier was a national hero in Russia for the 2018 World Cup, the right-back was unable to replicate anything close to this form for Spurs in the Prem or Europe.

Having said that, Trippier was part of the team that led Tottenham to their first-ever Champions League final last time out.

Now of Atletico Madrid, Trippier has been speaking out on his Tottenham exit, suggesting that something happened behind the scenes that made him want to leave.

Tripps said (Sky Sports): “I think it was time for me to change and move on. I don’t necessarily mean that I needed to move on, but things happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, which I don’t really want to go into, but I needed to move on from that.”

These comments haven’t gone down too well with Tottenham legend Graham Roberts, who believes that Trippier should be keeping quiet after such a poor season with Tottenham last year.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Dear Kieran Trippier,
Let me understans this. You decided to leave Spurs. And for £25m. Oh and it happened 1-2-3. But when Danny Rose wanted to leave and we were offered £60m ( supposedly) and he made poor judged comments to the press, Spurs said no. Dier was headhunted by Man Utd, Spurs closed the door on any contact. Alderviereld wanted to leave , Spurs said no wY and extended the contract clause.
Yet, you a player that was at best a liability all of last season, that had fans saying for god sake go….it’s you who decided to leave.
Me thinks you knew you were no longer in the Managers or your fellow players thoughts. No, save the ego for someone who cares.
AS they say if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck……
