Spurs legend insists rumoured striker target is ‘not good enough’ for his old club

Tottenham legend, Graham Roberts has claimed that the club should be aiming to sign a forward of a higher calibre than Alexander Sorloth this transfer window.

With less than three weeks to go until the end of the transfer window, Tottenham are not thought to be close to completing a deal for a striker despite monitoring several options across Europe (Football.London).

It appears that one such option is Sorloth, who has been on fire in front of goal since joining Trabzonspor on a two-year loan deal from Crystal Palace last summer.

The Norwegian international finished the season as the Super Lig’s top scorer with 24 strikes in 34 league games (transfermarkt.com) and Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has admitted that Spurs are also interested in signing the striker (Fanatik).

Jose Mourinho refused to comment when asked about Tottenham’s interest in the 24-year-old after his side’s loss against Everton on Sunday.

However, Roberts has urged the club to show more ambition and go after a player like Paulo Dybala, who can partner Harry Kane.

Looking at the profile of some of the strikers we have been linked with over the past week like Patson Daka and Andrea Belotti, it is evident that Jose wants to bring in a striker who is not only capable of being a target man but also has the pace to run in behind the opposition defence. I expect us to play a variation of a 4-4-2 on a lot of occasions this season. Sorloth is more of a traditional target man of the Llorente mould and so he is more likely to be used as a plan B if we are struggling to break the opposition rather than as a started alongside Kane.
