Spurs legend Rafael van der Vaart mocks Arsenal star after Harry Kane’s latest goal

Harry Kane converted a cool penalty on Tuesday night against Arsenal in the Champions League, but former Tottenham man, Rafael van der Vaart has suggested David Raya should have done better when facing the spot kick.

Bayern Munich played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday night, leaving it all to play for in the second leg of the quarter-final.

Kane was on the scoresheet, putting Arsenal to the sword once again, something he knows all about from his days at Tottenham.

The England captain slotted home a penalty in the first half to give Bayern the lead. Kane went for an uncharacteristically low spot kick, placing the ball past David Raya rather than using power as normal.

Kane’s stuttered run-up saw Raya dive early and give the Bayern striker the perfect opportunity to add to his tally for the season. That penalty was Kane’s seventh goal in the Champions League this season, and goal number 39 overall (Transfermarkt).

Van der Vaart questions David Raya

Raya should have done better between the sticks for the penalty, though, according to former Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, who criticised the Arsenal keeper and questioned his decision to dive early for the spot kick.

Speaking after the game, van der Vaart said (via AS): “Take a look at Raya. Is this guy even a goalkeeper? Kane had not even moved and Raya was already on the ground.”

It was interesting to see Kane trying something a bit new with his penalty, and it worked a treat. Raya did go very early though, and gave Kane the simplest of tap-ins really. But, to be fair, even if Kane had gone for his more traditional powerful shot, we know he’s more than likely going to convert anyway.
