Spurs legend tweets out match day programme of game against Wolves in 1956

Tottenham Hotspur take on Wolverhampton Wanderers today afternoon at Wembley as they go in search of three valuable points. Spurs who are second in the table will have an opportunity to go within three points off Liverpool who take on Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal later in the day.

Spurs and Wolves have played out some classic fixtures in the past and by the looks of it, the game at Wembley could prove to be another cracker particularly considering that Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo has vowed to take the game to Tottenham instead of sitting back.

If Santo keeps his word, then you can rest assured that the game is likely to witness a lot of goals. One Spurs legend who had a fair amount of joy in front of goal against Wolves back in the day is Cliff Jones. The Welsh wing wizard who was a crucial member of the double winning Spurs side tweeted out an image of the matchday programme when Spurs took on Wolves back in 1965.

Tottenham were 7-4 winners on that day with Jones netting a hattrick. The 83-year-old’s said that he hoped for a similar high-scoring game this weekend. Check out his tweet below:

There is no doubt that this image will rekindle nostalgic memories for older Spurs fans.

To add another dimension to this game Tottenham striker Harry Kane is only three goals shy of Cliff Jones record of 159 goals for the club. If the game today does prove to be a high scoring one, you wouldn’t put it past Harry to catch up with Jones’ tally this evening.
