Spurs-linked centre-back admits he has talked to club president about his future

Rumoured Tottenham target Pau Torres has broken his silence on his future, admitting that he has discussed potential scenarios with the Villarreal president, Fernando Roig Alfonso.

Alessandro Bastoni is thought to be Antonio Conte’s top target for the left centre-back role (The Athletic and Football.London) but some reports have suggested that the 23-year-old is reluctant to swap Inter Milan for Spurs (The Evening Standard).

Torres is reportedly another option on Tottenham’s radar (The Daily Mail) with previous reports even indicating that the North London club could offer Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in a deal to sign the Spaniard (Football Insider).

The print edition of El Periodico Mediterraneo (25/05/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed recently that Villarreal are open to selling the 25-year-old this summer amidst interest from Spurs.

However, Torres has now insisted that he is more than happy to honour his contract at his boyhood club, admitting that it is special to represent the Yellow Submarine.

The centre-back said (via The Daily Express): “I have the peace of mind of being where they want me, where I have a valid contract and a renewal offer.

“The future will tell what happens but I am very calm, I do not look further and it is time to disconnect.

“It has been two years very good at Villarreal, we have competed with the best at European level which is what every player wants. And if, in addition, you do it in your town’s team, it’s bigger.”

When asked about the possibility of leaving El Madrigal this summer, Torres responded: “It’s something I’ve always talked about with the president, that different situations could arise.

“The club loves me and I am very grateful. I know that I can stay here for many more years because the affection is mutual. We’ll see what we decide.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Bastoni is Conte’s first choice target and it appears based on reports over recent days that Josko Gvardiol is Tottenham’s fallback option in case a deal for the Italian proves unfeasible. I can only see Spurs exploring the singing of Torres if they fail with their pursuits of the Inter star as well as the RB Leipzig youngster.
