Spurs-linked defender has sought the advice of Luis Campos over his next move

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Gabriel Magalhaes has admitted that he wants to play at the highest level and is analysing his options ahead of a summer transfer.

Magalhaes has impressive since establishing himself as a regular in the Lille side earlier this season and hardly put a foot wrong defensively all season.

He has been extremely reliable at the back for Christophe Galtier’s side, often proactively stopping dangerous situations before they have a chance to develop.

On the back of his performances, it has not come as much of a surprise that clubs around Europe are showing an interest in the central defender.

Napoli already have a deal in principle in place for Magalhaes with Lille that is said to be worth around €22million (£20m) but Spurs have reportedly made an eleventh-hour approach to try and tempt the player to North London (Foot Mercato).

Magalhaes has now revealed that he is yet to decide which club to join and described reports of being Naples bound as sheer speculation whilst also revealing that he has been speaking to Luis Campos about his next destinaton.

Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos is known to be close friend of Jose Mourinho and has also been linked with a move to North London in the past (talkSPORT).

Speaking to L’Equipe (as relayed by The Daily Mail), the Lille star said: “It is gratifying because there are a lot of teams talking about me.

“I want to go as high as possible, I came to Europe for that. England or Italy? Both are good championships.

“I speak a lot to Luis Campos [Lille’s director of football] to see where it is best for me because he has a lot of experience. I also speak with my agents, with Gerard Lopez, with Jose Fonte.

“Gennaro Gattuso [Napoli’s manager] likes me a lot? I don’t know, we haven’t talked. On the internet, on social networks, there are a lot of things coming out.

“I do not know what is true. I see every day, ‘ah Gabriel goes there, then there’.

“But in fact, we don’t know yet where I’m going to go. Wherever I go it will be to play, to be at the top, at the highest level. And above all in a team that will allow me to go to the Selecao.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Magalhaes will be a decent replacement for Vertonghen given the attributes he possesses and it does not sound like we would need to break the bank for him.

I will not be surprised to see us make an offer for him given that Joao Sacramento would know him quite well having worked with him at Lille.
