Spurs-linked defender says his club blocked a transfer in the summer

Galatasaray centre-half Victor Nelsson has spoken to the Danish media about his desire to leave the club this summer and how a potential move broke down.

Tottenham Hotspur were well known to be in search of defensive reinforcements during the summer. Eventually, the club opted to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg, and the 22-year-old has been a revelation so far.

The Lilywhites also signed youngster Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers, and though he is yet to feature for the senior side, there is a belief he could be used by Ange Postecoglou this season.

Spurs were eyeing a number of defenders if speculation is to be believed, and one of them was Victor Nelsson. In fact, the North London club are still thought to be keen, with talk of a £25.9m move in the offing (Aksam).

Victor Nelsson wanted to leave Galatasaray

Speaking to Tipsbladet during the international break, Nelsson himself has revealed how close he was to leaving during the summer.

He said: “It was very close with Sevilla. The plane was ordered, but it did not materialise. I think that Galatasaray have blocked a transfer. It’s no secret.

“They have not found the package good enough. There has been interest and offers from clubs I really want to join. I would have liked to have been changed.”

Nelsson also added fuel to the fire that he may leave, adding: “I have had some talks with [Galatasaray]. I informed them after the last international break that I do not want to extend my contract. I have three years left on my contract and I just couldn’t see myself extending an extra year.”

I reckon Nelsson could be one to watch in January for Spurs. We still need at least one more centre-half, he clearly wants to leave, and we have a decent relationship with Galatasaray.
