Spurs-linked midfielder claims it is easy to play with Cristian Romero in defence

Rodrigo De Paul, who was mooted as a target for Tottenham in the summer, has showered praise on Cristian Romero on social media.

Romero and the rest of the Argentina squad are one step away from creating history as they are set to take on France in the final of the World Cup on Sunday.

The Tottenham centre-back did not have the best of starts to the tournament, looking short of match fitness in La Albiceleste’s 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia.

However, the 24-year-old has hardly put a foot wrong since and he produced his best performance of the tournament in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Croatia in the semifinals.

The Spurs star registered five clearances, blocked two shots, and made one tackle on Tuesday and was dribbled past just once in the entire game (SofaScore).

Romero took to Instagram after the game to post a heartfelt message stating that he was proud of this group of Argentine players. His international teammate De Paul responded to the centre-back’s post with a comment that read: “How easy to play with you at the back.”

It was reported during the summer transfer window that Tottenham tried to sign the Atletico Madrid star but the midfielder turned down the chance to join the North London club (TuttoMercatoWeb).

De Paul does have a different profile to our four central midfielders and could perhaps be a useful squad player for Spurs. However, it is unclear how serious the club’s interest in the Argentina international in the summer was and if Conte’s men continue to have an eye on the 28-year-old.
