Spurs linked Milan Skriniar reveals what he ‘wanted’ to do in summer transfer window

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Milan Skriniar seems to have poured cold water on reports linking him with a move away from Inter Milan, admitting that he always wanted to stay put at the San Siro.

Reports had indicated that Skriniar was at the top of Jose Mourinho’s wishlist during the summer transfer window.

A move to Spurs looked inevitable for the Slovakian international at one point, with Tottenham’s technical director Steve Hitchen even being pictured with the central defender’s agent in Italy (Gianluca Di Marzio).

However, the move did not materialise during the summer and the 25-year-old seems to have won Antonio Conte’s trust, having featured 15 times for the club so far this season.

Some reports have backed Tottenham to return for Skriniar’s services this summer as a new centre-back is still thought to be high on Mourinho’s wish list (Express).

However, the Slovak’s most recent comments suggest that a move away from the Nerrazuri is unlikely.

Speaking about his future, Skirniar told Inter’s official website: “I always wanted to stay here. I’m happy to be performing more consistently.

“Now, I’m more used to the style of football here but I don’t think I was too bad last year.

“The team is growing game by game and everyone is doing better and better.”

Inter, like many clubs around Europe, need to get some players off their wage bill and raise some funds through sales before they can buy. So, I would not be surprised if Skriniar became available this month. However, it is unlikely that Tottenham will be in a position to meet Inter asking price for the Slovak, with reports indicating that a summer deal is more likely.
