Spurs-linked sporting director is in advanced talks with two rival PL clubs

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of hiring Tim Steidten as their new Director of Football have been dealt a blow after it was revealed the former Bayer Leverkusen man is in advanced talks with two other Premier League clubs.

Steidten has done impressive work in Germany as a director at Werder Bremen, and more recently as sports coordinator at Leverkusen.

Having left his role at Leverkusen earlier this year, Steidten has now been named as one of the candidates for the vacant Director of Football role at Tottenham (Football.London).

The North London side are keen to bring in a new figure to oversee sporting affairs at the club after Fabio Paratici stepped down last month.

Steidten recently admitted to DeichStube that his next role is unlikely to be in the Bundesliga, and revealed he had received offers from clubs in England.

Now, the latest from Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg suggests Tottenham may not be in the driving seat when it comes to courting Steidten, as two other clubs are making good progress in discussions with the German.

He said on Twitter: “Spurs are interested to get him as their new sporting director. But it’s more advanced with two other clubs from the Premier League.”

Plettenberg lists the players Steidten has been involved in recruiting, including Piero Hincapie, Jeremie Frimpong, and Edmond Tabsoba.

He adds that Steidten “is ready to take over a new challenge next season.”

It is unclear at this stage who the other two clubs are that have been speaking to Steidten.

Spurs Web Opinion

If we are serious about hiring Steidten, we had better make a move soon.

He wouldn’t personally be my first choice for the role, though.

I would rather see us go for Tiago Pinto who has done brilliant work with Roma and Benfica.
