Spurs-linked striker compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic by former boss

Rumoured Spurs target Victor Osimhen has been compared to Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic by his former Charleroi manager Felice Mazzu.

Lille’s decision to snap up Osimhen from Belgian outfit Charleroi last summer has proven to be an inspired decision with the striker having enjoyed a prolific first season in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old had netted 18 goals for Lille in all competitions before the season in France was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic before eventually being called off (transfermarkt.com).

The Nigerian international’s performances this season are said to have attracted the attention of clubs including Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea (Sky Sports).

In fact, the North Londoners are already said to have made a £62million offer for the striker’s services, which has reportedly also been matched by Liverpool (Radio Kiss Kiss via Area Napoli).

Mazzu is in no doubt that the striker is bound to go on to become one of the best in the world and suggested that he is like Ibrahimovich in every aspect except his personality off the field.

Speaking about Osimhen, he told TuttoNapoli: “He looks like Ibrahimovic because he can do everything with his feet and his head.

“There is a big difference between the two – Victor is a simple person – but he will become a great striker.

“His great talent is his explosiveness, he has incredible physical strength. He knows how to play with his head, he always makes the right choice in front of the goal, he can walk all over the field and score.

“And then he has another great quality: security. He is not afraid of anything.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I can see where Mazzu is coming from with the Zlatan comparisons, Osimhen personally strikes me as being similar to Didier Drogba in his characteristics. In my opinion, he has more to his game than Erling Haaland, although he is not as good a finisher as the Norwegian.
