Spurs loan update: Pape Matar Sarr stars as Metz try to pull off great escape

In their weekly segment on the Tottenham players out on loan, Football.London have revealed that Pape Matar Sarr starred for Metz in their win over Angers on Sunday.

Sarr played all ninety minutes to help Metz to a 1-0 win, which has lifted the club into the relegation play-off spot in 18th. The on-loan Spurs midfielder was reportedly Whoscored’s second-highest-rated player in the match with a score of 7.58.

Metz travel to Paris Saint-Germain for their final game of the season and if they are to able to match Bordeaux’s result, they will finish 18th and face the third-placed side in Ligue 2 in a play-off for the right to preserve their Ligue 1 status.

Football.London also reveal that Tanguy Ndombele started for Lyon in their 3-2 win against Nantes over the weekend, with the midfielder being taken off after 63 minutes after he was booked around the hour mark.

Meanwhile, Giovani Lo Celso continues to impress, completing 90 minutes in Villarreal’s 5-1 victory at Royal Vallecano last week as well as their 2-1 home defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Byran Gil was an unused substitute for Valencia in their 1-1 draw with Espanyol on Saturday but he did play 63 minutes of the 3-0 home defeat to Real Betis last Tuesday.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, who won the Scottish Premier League with Celtic, helped the Bhoys sign off their campaign in style with a 6-0 victory against Motherwell at home.

The Scottish Daily Express wrote about the centre-back’s display: “A cool as you like showing from the centre-half who didn’t break a sweat.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I was a bit concerned at the start of the season that Sarr was struggling to get regular starts for a relegation-threatened Metz side. However, the 19-year-old has demonstrated his quality and versatility over the last few months since returning from the African Cup of Nations.
