Spurs lose out on transfer target to Premier League rivals

Manchester City have beaten the likes of Spurs and Chelsea to the signing of a highly-rated young goalkeeper.

16-year-old Irish keeper Gavin Bazunu caught the eye of all three big clubs during his stint at Shamrock Rovers, but the teenager has now swapped the green of Shamrock for the blue of City.

The young star fetched a record fee for a non-professional in Ireland, some £420,000.

He will continue his studying alongside playing football.

Bazunu clocked up an impressive six senior appearances for Shamrock last season, despite not turning 17 until February.

Manchester City have had some tough luck with keepers of late, after Claudio Bravo was struck down through injury.

Their current back up stoppers are all aged 20 and below, so Bazunu will be fighting to nail down that third keeper spot in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

With Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, and the promising Paulo Gazzaniga, not too many Spurs fans will be disheartened by City’s signing.
