Moussa Sissoko could be set for a retrospective ban from the Football Association after he was caught appearing to stamp on Newcastle United’s Kenedy during the 2-1 win at St James’ Park yesterday, according to The Sun.
The incident happened in the 43rd minute of the Premier League opener, where the Frenchman’s foot landed on the back of the calf of the Newcastle player and referee Martin Atkinson took no action, after already awarding the home side a free-kick.
If the Spurs midfielder is found guilty by the FA, he will receive a three-match ban which would see him miss the fixtures against Fulham, Manchester United and Watford.
Sissoko had a great chance to score against his former side in the second half, only for his shot to be superbly saved by the Magpies keeper at close range.
Mauricio Pochettino decided to start Sissoko in the middle of the park alongside Eric Dier, with Mousa Dembele given a place on the bench.
