Spurs midfielder pinpoints the main difference between Mourinho and Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a healthy start to the Premier League campaign with Moussa Sissoko playing a pivotal role in midfield.

The French international has featured in seven of the eight top flight matches to date this season and has formed an impressive midfield axis with Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (transfermarkt).

Sissoko was brought to North London by Mauricio Pochettino and endured a tough start to life at Spurs following his switch from Newcastle United.

The 31-year-old has highlighted the main difference between what he has experienced under the management of Mourinho and Pochettino.

Sissoko revealed that Pochettino had more focus while in possession to try and be creative with the ball while Mourinho has instilled more of a defensive approach while trying to focus on how to capitalise on an opponent’s weakness.

Mourinho’s defensive work appears to be working with Spurs having conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season with nine.

“I will say, with Mourinho, you are more solid defensively and trying to play on the weaknesses of the opponent, and with Pochettino we were more playing with the ball, more offensive, maybe more creative.” Sissoko told Stadium Astro.

“But at the same time, we were leaving a lot of space behind us and some teams could damage us when we were losing the ball.”
