Spurs midfielder takes to Twitter to show optimism after defeat to Leipzig

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has insisted that the club’s Champions League tie against RB Leipzig is far from over after the Bundesliga side came away from North London with a 1-0 advantage.

Leipzig dominated proceedings for the majority of the first half with the home side seemingly happy to sit back and defend deep.

Some inspired goalkeeping from Hugo Lloris and some wasteful finishing from the opposition kept the score level heading into the interval.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side struck just before the hour mark when Konrad Laimer was brought down inside the area by Ben Davies and Timo Werner stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick beyond Lloris.

Spurs did manage control of the game in the final half-hour when they pushed for an equaliser but the away side held firm until full time, giving themselves a major advantage, including an away goal going into the second leg in three weeks time.

Lo Celso, who was one of Tottenham’s best players on the night, took to social media after the game to post the following message:

Spurs Web Opinion

It was clear that Leipzig can be got at as their defence struggled to contain us when we took the game to them in the final 30 minutes. We showed a little too much respect for them in the first half. I expect us to take many more risks and play more on the front foot in the return leg.
