Spurs miss out on reported transfer target after he signs new contract

Norwich City have announced that their young defender Ben Godfrey has signed a new contract at the club.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at Carrow Road with the option of a further year and comes following recent interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United (Metro).

The England under-20 international had caught the eye during the Canaries promotion winning season which saw Godfrey make 36 appearances in all competitions.

Godfrey had been under contract until 2022 and his new deal certainly means that Spurs will have to look elsewhere this summer.

Spurs are expected to be very active in the current transfer window after going over 500 days without signing a new player.

Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele and Leeds United’s Jack Clarke are both expected to become the club’s first recruits of the window in the coming days (talkSPORT).

Opinion

While it is refreshing to see that Spurs have once again turned a focus onto looking to recruit young English talent, we need players who are ready to hit the ground running in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team if we are to challenge for silverware.
