Spurs mourn the loss of legend Bobby Smith

It is with great sadness that news has reached us that Tottenham Hotspur legend Bobby Smith has died at the age of 77 after a short illness.

Bobby scored 208 goals in 317 senior games for Spurs and was a member of the side which won the double in the 1960-61. During that season Bobby scored 33 goals.

He picked up winner’s medals in the 1962 FA Cup final and the 1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup. Smith was also prolific at international level, scoring 13 times in 15 appearances for England.

“It is with great regret that we announce the death of Bobby Smith, our legendary centre-forward from our great double-winning side of 1960-61,” read a statement on Tottenham’s website.

“Bobby died at an Enfield hospital yesterday evening [Saturday] following a short illness. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of Bobby Smith at this very sad time.”

  1. This his sad news for me because at the tender age of ten with Man Utd Liverpool Man City and Everton on my door step and my love for Football blossoming by the week . Spurs stole my Heart . You see Bobby Smith was the person who got me hooked and having the same surname name Smith attracted me even more. forty eight years later my loyalty's are even stronger Thanks Bobby for helping me become a Proud Cockerel . R I.P Big Man forever a Legend in all our Hearts and condolences to the Smith Family.
