CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has said that even though Jordan Pickford just signed a new contract at Everton, the goalkeeper could still be on his way to Tottenham in the summer if the Toffees fail to avoid the drop.
Multiple outlets have reported recently that Spurs are expected to sign a successor to Hugo Lloris in the summer.
Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, Brentord’s David Raya, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan are said to be the four names at the top of the North London club’s wishlist (Football.London).
Pickford was also previously mentioned as a potential candidate to take over the gloves from Lloris (Daily Mail) but Everton confirmed last month that the England international has put pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park until 2027.
Jacobs has now explained that even though there is no relegation clause in the new deal, the 29-year-old would be allowed to leave the Merseyside club if Sean Dyche’s men go down.
The journalist told CaughtOffside: “I still wouldn’t rule out a Premier League club moving for Jordan Pickford, even though he’s signed a new deal until 2027 with no relegation clause in it.
“There is still an informal agreement if Everton go down that Pickford can leave. Spurs were always a frontrunner, but we’ll have to wait and see now what their new manager thinks.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There would likely be a major scramble for Pickford’s signature this summer if Everton go down.
While I suspect that the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United would be eyeing David Raya as their top target, all three clubs would also be keeping an eye on the Everton star’s situation.
