Spurs must ‘prove’ themselves at Old Trafford, says Poch

After making it two wins from two games in the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side to ‘prove to themselves they can be winners’.

Spurs comfortably secured all three points against Fulham on Saturday but face a tougher challenge on Monday 27 August with a trip to Old Trafford.

With Tottenham’s World Cup stars fully integrated back into the squad, Pochettino told The Daily Mail:

‘In the end, England did not win, just like Tottenham did not win last season,’ he said.

‘We are here to win, not to come second, third or fourth. We are here to be first. In our squad, only Hugo Lloris won the World Cup.’

‘We need to show we are winners. Old Trafford next week will be another challenge and it will show whether we are ready to compete for big things or not.’

Spurs have failed to win at Old Trafford since 2014 when goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen inspired Tim Sherwood’s Lilywhites to all three points.

The Red Devil’s are currently three points behind Tottenham after their 3-2 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
