Spurs player is part of ‘strategic plan’ for Saudi Arabia this summer – Journalist

Heung-min Son has been named as one of the priority targets for Saudi Arabia clubs this summer, with contacts and plans already taking place to prise the Spurs skipper away from North London at the end of the season.

Since the departure of Harry Kane last summer, Son has become the Lilywhites’ new talisman, and was handed the captain’s armband by Ange Postecoglou.

The South Korean star has relished the newfound spotlight and responsibility, registering 12 goals and six assists this season (Transfermarkt) to help Spurs challenge for the top four.

It could have all been very different, however, had interest from Saudi Arabia last summer proven to be successful, with a reported £25m per year offer on the table for Son (ESPN). Son himself quickly put that speculation to an end by insisting he wanted to stay in the Premier League.

Since then, the talk has been relatively quiet, though journalist Ben Jacobs did claim Saudi clubs would be back for Son in the summer of 2024.

Saudi clubs want Son

Well, those rumours have indeed resurfaced again now, with journalist Rudy Galetti claiming Son is one of four big targets for the Saudi league heading into the summer.

Galetti tweeted: “The Saudi Arabia negotiator is finalising details and priorities of the strategic plan for the next transfer market session. Contacts with De Bruyne, Salah, Son and Modric – currently considered main targets for the summer – are expected in the coming weeks.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Tottenham wanted to sell Son, I just cannot see him ever wanting to go to the Saudi league. He’s the kind of player who wants to play at the very best level he can, and money does not mean half as much to him as the quality of football does, so he will not be going this summer. He loves it at Spurs, and we love him – he will be staying.
