Spurs player spotted walking gingerly wearing knee brace after win at Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a hard fought three points against Aston Villa to put down the marker in their bid for a top four finish in the Premier League.

One negative of the afternoon at Villa Park was the injury suffered by Matt Doherty. The Republic of Ireland international was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Villa full-back Matty Cash which left him in a crumpled heap on the floor.

Doherty, who continued in the left wing-back role after impressing against Newcastle on the unfamiliar flank last weekend received treatment on the pitch following the tackle and managed to carry on for seven further minutes before going down again and having to be replaced by Sergio Reguilon.

Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick, who was at the match in the Midlands has taken to Twitter to reveal that Doherty was spotted walking in some discomfort upon leaving the stadium and had a brace fixed to his right knee.

A hat-trick from Heung-min Son and a brilliant effort from Dejan Kulusevki ensured Spurs continued to pile the pressure on rivals Arsenal.

It would be a huge blow for Antonio Conte not to have Doherty available for selection over the next few weeks given the marked improvement he has shown since scoring at Leeds in late February.

Hopefully, it is nothing more than a knock and the brace is simply for precautionary measures.
