Spurs player tells supporter to shut up after Man City win

Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier has hit back at a fan on social media who was critical of him for giving away a penalty against Manchester City.

The defender lunged for the ball and brought Sergio Aguero down inside the box in the first half of the clash on Sunday but Mike Dean did not deem the challenge a foul.

However, VAR intervened several minutes later to reverse Dean’s decision and award City a penalty.

As it happened, Aurier’s blushes were spared as Hugo Lloris saved Ilkay Gundogan’s spot-kick to keep the score level going into half time.

The Ivorian took to Instagram after the game to share his delight at the win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

A fan commented to the post saying: ‘Stop giving away penalties’ to which Aurier responded with ‘Shut up’ along with a mouth zipped-up emoji.

The 27-year-old has won some Spurs fans over with his upturn in form in recent months but comments like this are unlikely to endear himself to the fan base.

I never understand why some fans feel the need to have a go at players on social media. It is counter-productive and extremely immature. However, there are always idiots who are likely to do that and Aurier must know better than to take the bait and respond to trolls.
