Spurs player will be ‘like a new signing’ next season

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to improve upon last season’s fourth place finish in the Premier League.

At times the middle of Tottenham’s midfield appeared decimated due to injury and illness.

Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko all missed matches due to injury while Victor Wanyama had another difficult season.

The Kenyan has struggled with knee problems that saw him miss a chunk of the middle part of the campaign, and ended up making 22 appearances, including just four starts in the Premier League.

Former Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda believes that Wanyama can become a key figure for Mauricio Pochettino’s side next season if he can manage his fitness.

Chimbonda is hopeful that the powerful midfielder can start the upcoming season without any issues which would be a welcome sight for Spurs fans if he can rekindle the form he showed in his first season at the club.

The arrival of Tanguy Ndombele will make competition for the central midfield slots even more difficult for Wanyama, Dier, and co.

Chimbonda told Sportingbet:

“Wanyama will be like a new signing for Tottenham next season. He managed to stay injury free towards the end of the season and played some much needed first team football. He was a little rusty, but he can now kick on and start the season fresh.

“It’s important that he doesn’t push himself too hard as he needs to stay fit for the whole season to really get back on track. If he can do that, then he could be a vital player next season.”
