Spurs player will ‘need some persuading’ to join Premier League club on loan today – Journalist

Dan Kilpatrick has said that Bryan Gil’s future very much remains up in the air heading into the final few hours of the transfer window, insisting that there is no guarantee that the winger would be able to seal a loan move before the 11 pm transfer deadline.

Gil has left Tottenham on loan during the January window in each of the last two years, making moves to Valencia and Sevilla respectively in 2022 and 2023.

The 22-year-old could now make a temporary move to a Premier League side, with multiple reports over the past 48 hours revealing that Brighton are locked in talks with Spurs regarding a loan deal for the Spaniard (Daily Mail).

In fact, it was even suggested by Dean Jones on GiveMeSport earlier today that the Segulls could even try to push through a longer-term deal, with the Lilywhites said to be open to offloading the winger permanently.

Bryan Gil could end up staying at Spurs

Kilpatrick has now offered an update on Gil’s future, revealing that there is no guarantee that the Spain international would be able to head out of the exit door.

The journalist pointed to Ange Posteocoglou’s decision to bring on Jamie Donley against Brentford as evidence that the former Sevilla man has slipped further down the pecking order.

Kilpatrick told The Standard’s live deadline day blog: “Tottenham are happy to let Bryan Gil join Brighton on a straight loan until the end of the season today and it was significant that youngster Jamie Donley came off the bench ahead of the Spaniard against Brentford last night, suggesting Gil may have fallen even further down the pecking order.

“But Gil will need some persuading to accept the Seagulls, who want to boost their options in wide areas amid a succession of injuries. Gil is happy at Spurs, enjoys working under Ange Postecoglou and playing in this group, so there is no guarantee he will be on the move before the deadline, however limited his opportunities in north London are likely to be.”

One would hope for Gil’s sake that a loan move is finalised before the deadline as I cannot see him getting any game time if he remains at Spurs. A loan move to another Premier League side could prove the right platform for the winger to perhaps show Postecoglou that he can be a part of his plans.
