Spurs receive Romero and Lo Celso boost ahead of Palace and Chelsea fixtures

Tottenham Hotspur will not have to release Cristian Romero or Giovani Lo Celso for international duty with Argentina next month.

Sky Sports have confirmed that Premier League clubs have unanimously decided not to release players who would be arriving in a red-list country for international duty.

Argentina is currently on the United Kingdom’s red-list meaning the two players, if they fly out, would have to self isolate for 10 days upon their return from South America.

Argentina face Venezuela, Brazil, and Bolivia on September 3, 5, and 10 would have seen them miss the Premier League fixtures against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, the Carabao Cup third round and the first group stage match of the Europa Conference League should the club progress, due to quarantine.

The Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham, alongside other top flight clubs were furious over the prospect of being without key players.

A statement read: “Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month.
