Spurs release official statement following sacking of Jose Mourinho and staff

Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed that Jose Mourinho has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

The statement revealed that the Portuguese along with his coaching staff of Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra will also depart the club.

There was no mention of Ledley King within the statement from the club, with the former defender also part of Mourinho’s coaching staff.

Mourinho had been in charge at Spurs since November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.

Spurs are currently seventh in the table, five points off the Champions League places and have already been knocked out of the Europa League.

Mourinho departs less than a week ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday along with Wednesday night’s Premier League match against Southampton.

The statement on the official site read: “The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.”

Chairman Daniel Levy commented: “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
