Spurs release statement to clarify reports over COVID tests involving two players

Tottenham Hotspur have moved to provide clarity on the reports suggesting that two players had tested positive for COVID-19.

Football.London revealed yesterday that two members of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad had received positive test results after reporting back from international duty and were set to miss the matches against Newcastle United, West Ham and Vitesse due to mandatory 10-day isolation period.

Spurs have earlier this afternoon ahead of the match at St James’ Park released a statement on their official website that two un-named players returned false positive test results.

The North Londoners will be looking to register their second successive Premier League win, having beaten Aston Villa before the international break

The statement read: “Following a number of reports regarding the health of our players, the Club would like provide clarity to events of the past 48 hours.

“After further analysis following Premier League protocol, two players – whose names will not be disclosed due to medical confidentiality – returned false positive tests for COVID-19 on Friday after returning from international duty.”

While speculation surrounding the names of the two players has been circulating on social media, it represents a huge boost for Nuno to have the duo to call upon to try and spoil Newcastle’s takeover party this afternoon.
