Spurs reported to be ready to battle Everton for Barcelona midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are considering reigniting their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Homes ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, Mauricio Pochettino is set to rival Everton in trying to land the player on a permanent transfer.

Gomes joined Everton during the summer on a season-long loan and has already impressed during the first part of the campaign.

Everton are said to be keen on making the deal a permanent one next month, but the player may wait until the summer before making his decision on his future.

Barcelona are said to have included an £89million transfer release clause in his current contract (Liverpool Echo), however, it seems hugely unlikely that any side would pay that amount to release him from the Nou Camp.

Spurs head scout Steve Hitchen was in attendance during the recent Merseyside derby at Anfield which saw Liverpool win 1-0.

Gomes, a Portuguese international has been linked with a move to Tottenham on numerous occasions in the past and could be a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele.

The Belgian, 31, is out of contract at Tottenham in the summer and has previously been rumoured to the subject of interest of a big money move to China. There has been no confirmation from the club about a possible new deal for the former Fulham man.
