Spurs reported to be ready to battle Premier League rivals for defender

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has warned that centre-back Nathan Ake, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur could be sold, according to The Sun.

The Dutch international has strongly been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks along with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea, of whom Ake used to play for.

According to reports, Chelsea have a £40million buyback clause in the agreement which saw the 23-year-old move to the south coast for around £20million in June of last year.

Ake moved to the Chelsea youth system from Feyenoord in 2011 at the age of 16. He made only seven league appearances for the Stamford Bridge club in seven years before leaving after a series of loan spells.

He counts as a home-grown player under Premier League rules which is seen as a big attraction.

Toby Alderweireld is yet to sign a new contract at Spurs, his contract runs until next summer but the club have an option to extend it by a year. In doing so it would trigger a release clause allowing him to leave for £25m during a two-week period at the end of next summer’s transfer window.
