Spurs to run the rule over Spanish forward

Tottenham will send scouts tomorrow to watch Athletic Bilbao youngster Gorka Guruzeta according to an article in The Sun.

The Spanish forward, 21, is set to play against Manchester United Under-23s at Leigh Sports Village, with Chelsea and Arsenal also monitoring his contract situation.

The article adds that Guruzeta is out of contract at the end of the season and can move without a fee.

It points out that Premier League sides will need to pay ‘training compensation’ to bring him to England but it would be at a fraction of his market value.

It’s added the Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is also an admirer of the youngster, who we are told can play as a winger or striker, and could join the London clubs in the race to sign him.

Athletic are facing United in the U23’s International Cup, with Swansea and Celtic also in their group.

According to the article Guruzeta has impressed in Bilbao’s feeder team playing in the lower leagues of Spanish football scoring six times in 14 appearances so far having moved for £180,000 last summer.

It adds that he stands at 6ft2in, and the towering forward remains a presence in the box and according to the article Premier League bosses believe he has the attributes to succeed in England’s top flight.

The article concludes by saying Spurs will be hoping former Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente can help fend off their league rivals and lure Guruzeta to Spurs.
