Spurs said to be ready to rival Chelsea for Champions League winner

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in rivaling Chelsea in signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.

The Croatian international is currently on a season-long loan at Stamford Bridge, but the blues do not have an option to buy the 24-year-old as part of the loan agreement according to Spanish outlet AS.

Kovacic’s time with the current Champions League champions looks to be over after apparently being unimpressed with his behaviour during the summer prior to moving to the Premier League.

The report claims that Madrid would demand a fee in excess of €35m for the player who lined up against Spurs in Chelsea’s recent defeat to Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Wembley.

Tottenham are said to be on the lookout for fresh faces in midfield with Mousa Dembele’s future at the club looking ever more doubtful as the weeks go on.

The Belgian is out of contract in the summer and has previously been linked with a big money move to China.
