Spurs set to miss out on another target

Any hopes Tottenham have of signing Javi Marquez look to have been dashed.

The Espanyol playmaker is set to sign a new four-year deal in Spain after helping the club to an eighth-placed finish in La Liga.

Marquez’s new contract will make him one of the biggest earners at the Spanish outfit – should this be agreed.

Marquez’s agent Jesus Medina said: “Negotiations will only be successful provided that the financial offer to Javi is on par with the other major players at the club.”

Wigan are also said to be interested in the player.
