Spurs star admits it was hard to focus at Everton after Gomes injury

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has admitted that the Tottenham players found it hard to focus after the horrific injury suffered by Andre Gomes late in the game.

The Everton midfielder fell awkwardly after being fouled by Son Heung-min and it was immediately apparent that something nasty had happened as both sets of players looked visibly distraught at the injury.

While Son was initially shown a yellow card, Martin Atkinson decided to change it to a red once he realised the extent of Gomes injury.

Everton made their numerical advantage count and eventually equalised late in the game through Cenk Tosun.

Dele i claimed that the circumstances didn’t help Tottenham but admitted the players were disappointed not to come away with the win.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Spurs midfielder said: “The injury wasn’t nice to see, you never want to see that happen and all we can do is send our best wishes, wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he’ll come back.

“It was sad to see but at the same time, we had a job to do and we’re disappointed we didn’t see the game out and take the three points.

“We felt comfortable (at 1-0). It’s difficult when something like that happens in a game, it takes you back and it’s hard to focus.

“At the same time, we had to stay professional throughout the whole game. However many minutes were added on, you have to stay switched on and it’s disappointing not to take the three points.”

When asked about his individual form, the 23-year-old insisted that he would have swapped his goal for three points on the day.

He added: “I feel really good. Look, people always talk, people always have opinions but I’m feeling good.

“I scored, but if you ask me if I’d rather score or us win, I’ll take the three points every day, so disappointed in the end.”

The red card potentially cost Spurs what would have been three invaluable points but the players can’t be blamed too much for letting the lead slip given the circumstances. However, the performance for the vast majority of the match left a lot to be desired as the Lilywhites created very few clear cut chances through the ninety minutes.
